It Happened so Quickly
Zane went to pre-school this morning! He's been on his own for the first time for an hour now. I hope he's doing great. I'm sure he is.
We weren't sure if he was ready for being away from his mom and me. We had a call in to the pre-school, but they hadn't called back and school's been going on for a while now, so we'd decided it just wasn't meant to be this year.
But last week the teacher called us and said that Zane could come in for an evaluation. Terri and I waffled a little about even having our lil' dude go to school right now, having a conversation about it while on the line with the teacher. Then she explained what the school is all about, and told us that most kids his age did great at pre-school, but that it was up to us of course, and we could call her back the next day. We decided on the phone that he should go.
His evaluation was yesterday.
He started school this morning.
He was so cool looking:
I went into class with him. It was totally cute. He did really well. I left as he was deciding what to play. He had a lot of choices, but I don't think he was clear on what they were. He chose to go outside and play on the playground equipment, but that wasn't an option. I wonder how he did with that... He's wanted to play on those toys since he saw them last year when we dropped Caspian off at school one day.
I think he was going to pretend to paint a house.
He told the teachers that he paints with me all the time.
I took video, and of course shut it off right before he said that.
I'm doing pretty good with him being gone. Came up here to the office and checked my e's and did this post. He'll be fine. I'm sure he's having a blast.
Though I did see that he's probably going to have a girlfriend soon enough. There was a little girl named Sydney who was very talkative and helpful. He didn't like her one bit.
Yay, Zane! Pre-schooler!

Well! shiver me timbers (I'm always late on things and that came out spontaneously. I may now always associate you with pirates) Zane is a big boy now! He is pretty darn cute. Let us know how he did. It's always a little hard for most kids, but there are those who take to the water like they've been walking the plank all their lives.
I always use always way too much. Yish.
It tugs at your heart, doesn't it?
I can remember taking both of mine to pre-school first day (there, Kevin, talking about your memories. I can remember both days as if they were yesterday, even though it was twenty-five years ago).
They were both way more cool about it than I was; I cried when I left. Both times.
Yes it does! I'm still crying! No, I actually did not go, which was NOT how I pictured my kid's first day, but was probably for the best. As the blog title says, It all happened so fast, I didn't even get the chance to think about taking off of school. I just called Kevin like 3 times from work.
And by taking off of school, I mean work. I'm still a little in shock. (formerly what Zane would have called "thock"). Now he goes to school.
Thanks for your words, you guys. Terri said, as she was reading the entry, "You sound like you're trying to talk yourself into it--that he's okay." I was all, "I WAS!"
He did great. I did good. Things were perfect.
Kev, congratulations on this Big Step. You most definitely did good by your boy. He's so cool/cute! The pre-school classes will be great for him. Milly got STACKS out of hers. It's a wrench for us parents but it's one of those times when you have to decide how much it's OUR nerves getting in the way of their good time. Milly learned such a lot about socialising, having fun, sharing stuff - it was a really solid preparation for "big" school.
Go, Zane! (And Dad.) xx
Good man, looks like fun! I'm surprised you was allowed to take pictures and videos, that isnt allowed over here.
For a three year old...Zane looks very grown up.
Sarah is right; pre-school is a wonderful preparation for life. Both of mine went two years and loved every moment of it. The went to kindergarten at the same place and when it was time to move to a new location for first grade, they were so ready.
STACKS, Sarah? Cool beans! You come up with the best words.
Thanks, KC, but I reckon "cool beans" gives me a run for my money. That's top whack. :)
Thanks, you guys. Yes, M, no one stopped me, anyway.
He's doing pretty good, other than the freak out today. I think it'll do a lot of good for him.
